Who is responsible
NFC Tool (“the app”) is made by RBN Apps. Questions about this policy: service@rbnapps.com.
What the app does not do
- No accounts or sign-in.
- No analytics, tracking or advertising.
- No servers of our own: the app never sends your tags, scans or records anywhere. It only connects to Apple’s App Store for purchases, and to music services for songs (see below).
- No data is sold or shared with third parties.
NFC
The app uses your iPhone’s NFC reader only while you have started a scan, write or other action and iOS shows its “Ready to scan” sheet. It reads the tag you hold to your iPhone (its type, serial number and content) and shows the result on screen.
The app only changes a tag when you ask it to: writing, erasing, locking, or setting or removing a password. Locking a tag is permanent, and the app asks you to confirm before it does it.
Tag passwords
When you set or remove a tag’s password, or unlock a protected tag for writing, the password you type is used on your iPhone to talk to that tag. It is never saved by the app and is forgotten when you close it. When you set a password, it is written onto the tag itself, as that is how NFC passwords work.
Scan history
The app keeps your last 50 scans on your iPhone so you can look at them again. A scan contains whatever the tag held, which can include links, contact details or Wi-Fi passwords. You can turn the history off and clear it in Settings, or delete single scans in History.
Records you write
The records you put together on the Write screen (such as a link, contact card or Wi-Fi network) are kept on your iPhone until you remove them, so you can write the same content to more tags later. They only leave your iPhone when you write them onto a tag.
Clipboard, links and sharing
The Copy buttons put a value on your device’s clipboard so you can paste it into other apps. The app writes to the clipboard and never reads it.
A link found on a tag only opens when you tap Open, in Safari or the app it belongs to. Sharing a scan only happens when you tap Share and choose where it goes. Those apps handle what you send them under their own privacy policies.
Songs
When you add a song from Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, SoundCloud, Deezer or TIDAL, the app asks that service for the song’s title, artist and cover art, so it can show them and write the song’s name onto the tag. The same happens when you read a tag that holds a song. Only the song’s link is sent, directly from your iPhone to that service; nothing about you, your tags or your other records. Each service handles these requests under its own privacy policy.
Purchases
You can use the tools three times for free. The weekly, monthly and yearly NFC Tool Pro subscriptions and packs of 10 actions are bought through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes the payment under Apple’s privacy policy. The app only checks with Apple, on your device, whether you have an active subscription. We receive no personal or payment information.
Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them. You can cancel or switch plans at any time in your iPhone’s Settings under your Apple Account › Subscriptions, or in NFC Tool under Settings › Manage subscription, at least 24 hours before the next renewal.
What is stored on your iPhone
- Your scan history, if it is turned on.
- The records on the Write screen.
- Your settings, such as the scan sound, vibration and raw record data.
- A one-line summary of your newest scan, which the NFC Tool widget shows on your Home Screen or Lock Screen if you add it. It follows your scan history: clear the history and it is cleared too.
- How many of your three free uses you have used, and how many bought actions you have left. These two numbers are kept in your iPhone’s secure Keychain so reinstalling neither resets the free uses nor loses actions you paid for. They contain nothing about you.
Everything except those two numbers is removed when you delete the app. Like other app data, it is included in your iPhone’s own backup (iCloud or your computer), if you use one.
Children
The app collects no data from anyone, including children.
