Who is responsible

ScanToPC (“the app”) and the ScanToPC Receiver for your computer are made by RBN Apps. Questions about this policy: service@rbnapps.com.

What the app does not do

  • No accounts or sign-in.
  • No analytics, tracking or advertising.
  • No internet connection: scans go directly from your phone to your computer, never to a server.
  • No data is sold or shared with third parties.

Camera

The camera is used only to read barcodes and QR codes, live on your device. Camera images are not stored or sent anywhere unless you choose to save a photo (see below).

Photo library

When you save a picture of a scanned code with its text, the app asks for add-only access to your photo library. It can add the pictures you choose to save, and it cannot see or read any of your existing photos.

Bluetooth

While the app is open, it uses Bluetooth Low Energy to make itself visible to the ScanToPC Receiver on your computer. Each code you scan is sent to that computer, which types it into the field you have selected.

Pairing is optional. Without it, the receiver connects to the nearest phone running the app. When you pair, the app sends the receiver the pairing code and a short identifier derived from your phone, so the receiver only accepts your phone. We recommend pairing when other people nearby also use the app.

ScanToPC Receiver (computer program)

The receiver runs only on your computer and never sends anything over the internet. To work, it keeps these files on that computer:

  • Scan history: your last 100 scans, so you can look them up in the receiver’s window.
  • Pairing: the pairing code, and the name and identifier of each paired phone.
  • Log file: status messages, including the scanned codes, to help with troubleshooting.

You can delete them at any time:

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/ScanToPC-Receiver/ and ~/Library/Logs/ScanToPC-Receiver.log
  • Windows: the folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\ScanToPC-Receiver\

On macOS the receiver asks for Accessibility permission. It needs this only to type the scanned codes and uses it for nothing else.

Clipboard

When you tap an item in the scan history, it is copied to your device’s clipboard. The app writes to the clipboard and never reads it.

Scan history and settings

The list of recent scans is kept in your iPhone’s memory and is cleared when the app is closed. Your settings and the number of free scans used today are stored on your iPhone only and are removed when you delete the app.

Purchases and subscriptions

The ScanToPC Unlimited subscription is bought through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes the payment under Apple’s privacy policy. The app only checks with Apple, on your device, whether you have an active subscription. We receive no personal or payment information.

You can manage or cancel the subscription in your iPhone’s Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions.

Children

The app collects no data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
